Practical answers

House-clearance questions people should ask

These answers explain the KindClear enquiry-introduction model and the questions customers should raise with an independent provider before agreeing a clearance.

Frequently asked questions

Does KindClear carry out house clearances?

No. KindClear is an information, advertising and enquiry-introduction service. An independent provider assesses, quotes for and performs any clearance work.

Does preparing an enquiry commit me to anything?

No. You decide whether to contact a provider and whether to accept that provider's quotation and terms.

How is a house-clearance price calculated?

Volume, labour, access, parking, disposal costs and unusual materials are common factors. Ask what is included and what could change the quotation.

Can I get a price from photographs?

A provider may offer an estimate or quotation from sufficiently clear photographs, but larger or complex jobs may require a visit. Confirm whether the figure is fixed or based on assumptions.

Can saleable contents pay for the clearance?

Sometimes contents may offset part of the cost, but this is never guaranteed. Assessment, transport, commission, condition and demand all affect the result.

What happens to personal papers or jewellery?

Agree this with the provider before work starts and create a clear keep area. KindClear will not claim a standard found-item procedure until providers confirm one.

Do I need to pack everything?

Usually a clearance differs from a removal, but you should remove or clearly mark everything that must stay. Ask the provider whether drawers and cupboards should remain as they are for assessment.

How long does a clearance take?

It depends on volume, access, staffing, sorting and specialist items. KindClear does not currently publish a standard duration because provider evidence has not yet been collected.

How do I check the waste carrier?

Ask for the provider's registration number and check the upper-tier entry on the Environment Agency public register before work begins.

Will I receive a waste transfer note?

Householders are not generally required to complete or keep a waste transfer note for their own household waste, but should keep evidence of the authorised carrier. Landlord or commercial waste may have different documentation requirements.

Can a provider take paint, asbestos or gas bottles?

Do not assume so. Flag hazardous or unusual items in advance. The provider must explain what it can legally take and any specialist arrangements required.

Do you offer same-day clearance?

No same-day promise is currently made. Availability must be confirmed by the independent provider.

Which towns does the site cover?

The initial information area is Beccles, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston with nearby communities. An independent provider's availability must be confirmed for the individual postcode.

How can KindClear be paid?

Independent providers may pay KindClear a fixed advertising or qualified-enquiry fee. Customers pay the provider directly for any clearance work.

What if I have a complaint?

Complaints about a quotation, contract or workmanship should first go to the independent provider responsible for the work.
